I don’t have the privilege of being a mom yet, but I hope I will be one day. Sometimes it feels like I have many babies. Because being a chiropractor has given me the opportunity of being in the corner of many moms. It’s the best feeling in the world to live every stage of the pregnancy with the mom’s and see the emotion in their eyes of the baby that’s coming. Maybe you are not pregnant yet like me, but maybe you want to start preparing for pregnancy and I want to be at your corner too. If you are already pregnant, congratulations.
I have been seeing many moms that during their first pregnancy didn’t have the best experience or they didn’t enjoy the pregnancy because they were in pain or they didn’t have a great support team around them. That’s why I want to share some tips that will help you or will guide you to have the pregnancy that you deserve.
Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful stages in your life. You have the ability to create life and be able to feel every step of your baby development. Having information and understanding all the different changes in your body through your pregnancy will help you to prepare for every one of them and be able to enjoy your journey of being pregnant.
During your first trimester you will have many emotions. You will have the excitement of announcing your pregnancy, questions about what you should be feeling, what you can eat, if it’s a boy or girl and many other questions. First celebrate with your partner and with your family, you’re going to be an amazing mom. After celebrating, it’s time to prepare for your journey.
One important question that moms have is who I should have in my corner ? That is one of the most important questions. If you have a good support team you will be able to understand, enjoy your journey and prepare your body for labor. You will have the pregnancy and labor that you want. First choose your OBGYN or your Midwife. You don’t need to have the same as your friend or family member. You need to find a provider that has a good chemistry with you, that you trust, that you feel comfortable with and that has the same health vision as you.
Another provider that will be very helpful will be a chiropractor. Your body will go through many physical changes. As your pregnancy progresses your body will experience different challenges. A chiropractor will be able to guide you through the different changes that you will experience. It’s very common that moms experience lower back pain, acid reflux, problems for sleep and many other symptoms that a chiropractor has the knowledge to help you decrease all those symptoms. A chiropractor that specializes in pregnancy can do Webster Technique. Webster Technique is an analysis and adjustment that reduces nervous system stress, balances pelvic bones, muscles and ligaments and optimizes the mother’s pelvic functions. This may create more space for the baby to assume the best possible positions for birth and will decrease the lower back pain during your pregnancy.
Last but not least you should have a doula. A lot of the time your partner thinks that’s my job, why do we need a doula? A doula will empower, educate and support your family to take control and feel confident during labor. Doulas will help you understand all the changes in your body. She will help you create your birth plan and understand the pros and cons of labor. With her experience she will guide you and your partner during labor to keep you calm and be able to have the birth that you want.
